Aynur is a Brunswick based artist who began her training at Marmara University (Bauhaus art school) in Istanbul where she majored in ceramics, later working in Turkey’s extensive network of ceramic studios.
Over many years she has managed a diverse and prolific career in art and design, working across painting, ceramics and textiles.
Following Aynur’s arrival in Australia in 1985, her interest in issues of migration and social engagement led to a 20-year career in multicultural broadcasting.
In recent years, she has returned to her primary research into the contemporary relevance of historically influenced patterning and decoration as a reoccurring human need expressed through a range of marks, objects and surfaces.
"Images pressed through time" brings together her earlier influences, combining them with her Australian experience and aesthetic influences to produce an accessible body of artworks.
All works in the exhibition are artist originals painted with gouache onto rag paper.
