Boroughs + Social Studio ~ Burt & Ernie breton
This classic Breton top is the work of the team at the Social Studio.
How it came to be is a story about community. Anthony Mananov from Otto and Spike knitted a few roles of striped rugby jeresey fabric with machines left behind by the previous owner of his factory. Once knitted they were put into storage for over 20 years. On a visit to the factory I enquired about the fabric I could see stored in the racks, Anthony said, "take it and make something", so we did!
For quite a while we'd been trying to figure a project we could do with the Social Studio, when Anthony offered us this fabric we knew that it would be perfect for a small run of tops. I'd been wearing a classic heavyweight knitted cotton Breton and realised it was the perfect garment for the fabric.
So here it is, a super limited edition Breton, in sunny stripes that remind us of Burt and Ernie.
Knitted and made right here in Inner Melbourne. Never to be repeated.
