Flying Eye Concertina fold out
We love illustrators and illustrated books at The Boroughs. Some of these titles have been best sellers for some time, showing the lasting value of good design.
This selection features the work of two wonderful illustrators, Owen Davey and Micah Lidberg.
Owen Davey - graduated from Falmouth University and has been a freelance illustrator ever since, working with clients such as Lego, Walker Books, Microsoft and the New York Times. Owen is constantly inspired by life, nature and aesthetics. He likes to research the subject very thoroughly before even putting pencil to paper. He makes lots of notes, establishes the main themes of the project, writes possible ideas down and starts drawing thumbnail illustrations. Once I’ve established a concept I’m happy with, I’ll play with the composition (still with thumbnail drawings) until I’m happy. Then I’ll scan the thumbnail in, and work directly on top of that in Photoshop, using a computer mouse.
Micah Lidberg - is a young artist living and working in Kansas City, Missouri. Having worked for the likes of the New York Times, Nylon magazine, and Orion Books, he is an avid storyteller and has produced a series of self-published works based around his most frequent subject matters, nature. Rise and Falls is a beautiful concertina book detailing the fall of the dinosaurs and the rise of the mammals, printed in four luscious spot colours.
