Record Culture Magazine
This biannual publication focuses on niche music communities and their intersection with the worlds of art, fashion and culture.
Content centres the intersection with the worlds of art, fashion, and culture.
Current issue #9 comes after a year of empty dancefloors around the world. However, as editor Karl Henkell writes, "the deeply interconnected ecosystem that is the music world has shown itself to be remarkably resilient and adaptable in the face of a global pandemic". Issue 9 is an anticipation of that return to the dancefloor.
This issue features Melbourne-based June Jones on her move from beloved heavy-folk musician to producing her debut album; formerly Melbourne-based Vanessa Worm on her artistic shift that drew her back to her hometown in New Zealand; and Melbourne-born/NYC-based DJ Oskar Mann on his love of jazz, his days broadcasting for East Village Radio and his music-infused clothing label.
Also featured are former Boiler Room host and Rhythm Section label head Bradley Zero, Running Back label head Gerd Janson, Chinese DJ and producer Yu Su, Sebastien Tellier, The Twilite Tone, Eug, Ana Roxanne and a lift-out supplement of 90s Chicago house flyers curated by Honey Dijon.
A great read for anyone interested in music culture.
For the record lover.
